Here’s a clever personal finance public service announcement from The Center for Economic and Entrepreneurial Literacy:

I wonder if anyone has studied the effectiveness of these types of PSA’s?

I don’t track my food expenditures very closely but I am a pretty frugal food shopper. It may be just my imagination but it does seem like my grocery bills have really spiked in the past 2 months.

So are prices really rising? How far up will they go? Is there any relief in site? What’s being done to help?

Let’s see what Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer has to say…

Hmm, I was hoping for something a little more optimistic…

Presidential candidates need to court the middle-class but rarely actually belong to the middle-class. I don’t think Americans would actually want a president from the the middle-class. Whether its a conscious decision or not, we like to elect millionaires to higher offices. Maybe we feel that if a person can be successful in their personal and business life, they can be equally successful in a political office.

So how financially successful have the current batch of presidential contenders been? Here’s a look:

If you’re an undecided indpendent voter, now that you know something about the net worth of the candidates, does it have any effect on how you feel about them?

If you find Wall St and stock market stuff boring, you really need to check out Wallstrip.

Wallstrip describes itself as “stock culture meets pop culture”. Their video series is both entertaining as hell and informative. Here’s a great example.

If you know precious little about trading this precious metal we call gold and you could use a good laugh, this video is for you:

If you listen to guys like CNN’s Lou Dobbs, someone is waging war on the middle class.

While there are problems, and all may not be peaches and cream, its also not all gloom and doom. Here is an awesome piece from the Drew Carey Project entitled, “Living Large: America’s Middle Class”.

Watch this and see what the half-full glass looks like!

Personal improvement guru Larry Winget has his own show on A&E called Big Spender. I’ve only be able to catch a few episodes but I’ve enjoyed the few I have seen. I like the way he cuts through people’s bullshit and makes them confront the real issues that are causing their financial woes. Here’s a clip of Larry describing the show:

You can watch more videos of Larry Winget and clips from Big Spender at aetv.com. If anyone has read any of Winget’s books, I’d like to hear what you think of them.

My next round of classes start today. I’m pretty excited because I’m only 6 classes and about 6 months away from earning my second degree. I found a couple of video clips that may be useful for you if you, or a loved one, are currently in school or thinking about going back to school.

The first video is on unexpected college expenses (lord knows I’ve had a few of those!). A little planning can help you avoid some of them but others will pop up and it can generate some panic if you don’t know what to do.

I have yet to make up my mind about grad school, mainly because of the cost. Ditto for my spouse. This video brought up some prospects I hadn’t thought of…

It would sure be nice if whomever becomes the next President of the United States would tackle the ridiculously high cost of higher education. The current tax deductions are just not sufficient and all America suffers everytime a citizen decides to skip college or grad school because of the expense!
